HHO Gas Fact Or Fiction
By Jim Lofton

I had been hearing a lot of people talking about being able to make a flammable gas called HHO out of water lately. What I hadn't done was actually talk to anyone that has tried it though so I decided to try it out for myself. I wanted to know if this HHO gas was fact or fiction so I bought some of the plans off the internet and got started experimenting with it.

Building the HHO generator was fairly easy but it did take a lot of time to run down all of the parts for it. All of the stuff that you need to build it is available at the store, just not the same store. It probably took me more time running all over town than it took me to actually put the thing together.

The plans that I bought said to use stainless steel wire but I didn't manage to find exactly what they were calling for in any of the stores I went to. Since I couldn't find the wire I just used some stainless steel plates that I found at the hardware store instead. This was probably a little easier than the wire would have been anyway though. I just separated them with nylon bolts and welded some tabs on them to attach them to the lid along with the studs to hook up the wires.

I used a mason jar for the jug and the plans said to use distilled water with baking soda in it to fill the jar with. I found out from playing with it that how much baking soda you put in there makes a huge difference on your current draw and on how many bubbles of the HHO gas it makes.

Anyway after I had the thing assembled and filled with water and a teaspoon of baking soda then I hooked up the battery to see what would happen. It almost immediately started making bubbles and the water discolored a little bit. I was fairly happy that it was making bubbles but I still wanted to find out if it was actually flammable.

I got another jar and filled it with tap water. I ran a hose from the HHO generator over into the jar with tap water and turned it back on. The second jar was just so that the gas could bubble up through the water in it and I would not have to worry about anything blowing up. I stuck a lighter to the bubbles as they came up through the jar and what do you know. The bubbles of gas coming out were actually flammable.

So I guess the question I had of is the HHO gas fact or fiction turned out that it is a fact. You can make water burn apparently. The next step will be to get a kit installed in a car and see if it does any good.
