Why Do You Need An O2 Sensor Extender

The theory behind the O2 sensor extender is that if you move the O2 sensor back out of the exhaust stream a little bit it will cool it off a little. If the O2 sensor gets cooler then it tells the computer to lean out the fuel. I have never tried one so I honestly don't know how much of a difference that it makes.
